March 24th was national Kick Butts Day, where students around the country learned about the harmful effects of cigarette smoking the “kicked butt” against cigarettes. The North Shore-LIJ Health System, where Corey Ribotsky is a Board of Trustee member, participated as well. Their Center for Tobacco Control (CTC) welcomed students at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Lindenhurst to transform the gym into a health classroom.
They had informative booths, educational games, all sorts of anti-tobacco messages from their poster contest, giveaways and more. Over 2000 groups participated in the Kick Butts Day nationwide.
According to the CDC, over three million adolescents smoke cigarettes and every single day 3500 teenagers will try their first cigarette.
